South Shields Parade – The Cultural Spring

A community arts, creative production and artist led facilitation project funded by The Cultural Spring for the South Shields Summer Parade 2024.

Volunteers and the community at Hebburn Cemetery Tea Rooms came together for a run of workshops to create a boat structure celebrating the history of South Tyneside and the Mid Tyne Ferry.

The community residents in Hebburn shared stories and memories about the North-East shipping industry. Past ship yard workers and families members shared their experiences of the boats that ferried so many to and from work between Hebburn, Wallsend and Walker.
