Artist Callout
Artists of all levels of experience are invited to contribute to an upcoming exhibition, Outside Our View. This exhibition is dedicated to raising awareness and support for the people enduring the ongoing catastrophic warfare in Gaza, and the people of Palestine.
The exhibition, supported by Newcastle Contemporary Art and to be held in the reception area of High Bridge Works, aims to serve as a platform for artistic expression, emphasising the importance of continued attention and compassion for those at the centre of this crisis, creating a space where diverse voices come together to amplify the call for solidarity.
Whilst we are aiming primarily to collect submissions of works directly relating to what is currently happening in Palestine, we are also accepting works that follow more general themes of peace, mutual care, and oppressed communities. If you aren’t sure whether this fits your work, just reach out to us and we can discuss!
This exhibition will not only be awareness-raising, but also raising money for the charity Medical Aid for Palestinians (MAP).
Why Medical Aid For Palestinians?
Whilst many other charities are currently not accessing paths to enable them to deliver aid, MAP currently have workers in Gaza and around the wider Palestine region delivering urgent medical care, complex surgeries, post-trauma mental health and disability support.
MAP also has a close, long-term connection to Newcastle as Dr Swee Chai Ang, founder of MAP, did her medical training in Newcastle and has subsequently brought children to the region for life-saving operations through her work with the charity since 1982.
You can find out more about the great work they do on their website https://www.map.org.uk/
We recognise that financial constraints should not be a barrier to participation. Because of this, we have multiple ways you can choose to contribute. Some of these include:
Donating any amount to MAP (in place of an exhibiting fee)
Donating your work with the proceeds for any sales going to MAP
Raising donations from your friends and family to donate to MAP
Donating your time to give talks or run workshops during the course of the exhibition to raise awareness.
