Tickle It Gently Across Your Face

An exploration of Neuroqueer Textile Disruption for autistic tactile stimming.

Tickle It Gently Across Your Face is an ongoing exploration of The Art of Stimming. It is a joy-as-resistance-based celebration of the playful, abstract and sometimes absurd, yet pure pleasure of the neurodiverse experience. The project brings people together through touching, feeling, repetition, and the organic adaptation of assemblage using textiles, fibre, and found objects. With accessibility and joy as a form of ideological disruption, both artistically and dialectically, the evolving work actively challenges the material and ideological structures that marginalise us. It aims to deconstruct misconceptions and marginalisation around autism, AuDHD, ADHD, and the lived experiences of people with learning disabilities. From a neuroqueer perspective, the world of fine art is re-visioned not as a barrier but as an invitation to play and cross the boundary between audience and art.
